Overall, we liked the movie. Charles Xavier was cast very well, very likable. Magneto was a good mixed-up bad guy, having a hard time resolving his past anger. The blue girl, Mystique, was the most troubling for me. She had a hard start to her life, a vagrant child going from house to house, stealing food, apparently not wanted by her parents. Then Charles is so nice to her, and they are like brother and sister for YEARS. But this does not change her inside. She still wants to be "mutant and proud," which can be translated: "mutant and still angry after all these years." She could have and should have changed. In the end, it seems the strong ones are the ones who side with Magneto, and you'd be stupid and weak to go with Charles. Truly, Charles is the one with all the strength, inner and outer, because he has control over his anger. But the movie does not draw this line clearly. Thus, we are left confused about who is really good and who is really bad, like the line is fuzzy, which is a sad commentary on our society where we honor relativism over true strength of character.
Fun! The fight scenes were a little too close, so the actors only had to move their arms a little and the rest was CGI, but the acting was really good, the character development great. Loved the sneaky Stan Lee cameo, as usual. Great to have the Shield guy from Iron Man back.
Well, my 13-year old son loved it and laughed out loud several times, could barely keep from adding his own sound track. My husband said it was as good as the first movie. Maybe I was tired, but I didn't think it was as good as the first. Yes, there were many really funny parts, but that's it- they were parts, like it was a variety show where the acts didn't really have to go together. Owen Wilson had a bunch of cameos, sort of. It seemed they tried too hard to have good lines, and the movie didn't really have a strong story line. But I did love some of the old comedy-type dialogs, hilarious. If you took it in pieces, the pieces were good. But the first movie had a real story and I like it better overall.
Wow, thought this was going to be another great kids movie. But it's much deeper and better than that. Was kind of shocked by the depth of evil of the bad guy, and the strong emotions all around. I think the repeated viewing will be sweeter because I already know the outcome. I plan to watch it several more times over the years, with good space of time in between to make it precious. LOVED the dog -we have a golden, and think this is the breed. Our 13-year old son loved it, too. We all cried. Younger kids might be too shocked by this - I'd wait until they are about 10. Awesome job, PIXAR!
