Since I am not in the "tween" age yrs of my life, I read this series of books & was captivated because Ms. Meyers took me back to when I was that age. I remembered what it was to feel love & passion in such a powerful way. Though the films may differ a bit from some of the books, still I was pulled there not to scream like a young fan but to watch & be awestruck by the power to take me along for their ride in spite of my age. I loved it and am anxiously looking forward to Eclipse.
I want to start out by writing, I am not a fan of comic book movies. I suppose I was compelled to see it because I was/am a huge Heath Ledger fan. That being written, I must go on to write that this was by far one of the greatest films I've seen in the last two years. The 2-1/2 hours? Flew by, at least for me. The entire cast was phenominal. You did not see comic book characters, this time these were real people and they made you feel what they were feeling. The action was fantastic, I along with the other viewers gasped out loud throughout. Someone asked me what I thought of Heath Ledger's performance. I could only say "he was Heath...as with all of his roles, you forget it's him, because he becomes the character so well, so deeply that you cannot see him. He was frightening, brilliant. To say "well done" is far too much of an understatement. This was great! I loved it. Apparently I was not alone. The entire theater was captivated. Expressing themselves throughout and applauding at the end as though it were a live performance. I am very glad I made the decision to go.
Two things that prompted me to see this film of course were Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker. I was not disappointed. Whereas many think Mr. Reeves cannot pull off such force and conflicting emotions in a character, he has more than accomplished that he has "nothing to prove" with his outstanding performance in this film. Mr. Whitaker as always a force to be dealt with on screen. This film was action packed but more importantly dealt with the emotional turmoil of what is necessary to be done in such a world as these characters were thrown. The conflict within was tremendously portrayed by Keanu Reeves. This film moved quickly and had more than its' fair share of edge of your seat, nail biting moments. The elements of shock and how that shock was dealt with was just outstanding leading up to an end that left you both emotionally drained and yet justifibly satisfied. I loved it. Performances A+ across the board.
