I saw the movies before this before I read that books. After the last movie I finally sat down and read them all. So I was a little disappointed and annoyed that they would split the last book into two movies. So annoyed in fact that there would be 6 months between them that I almost didn't go and see this in the theaters. How ever I went to see it last night and was glad that I did. My wife and I liked it. Over all it was a little slow (and the emo pity me scenes felt like they were dragged out too long just like in the book). Obviously with any book adaptation there are parts that are going to be left out, but over all they did a pretty good job of hinting at or at least briefly touching base on some of those things. If you plan to see the last movie, make sure that you see this in theaters before it leaves (which looks like it will be shortly).
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Similar to the vein of Avatar this movie was visually stunning. I appreciated the re-envisioning. Depp was however not particular funny, and did not live up to my expectations. That being said this was a good and fun entertaining movie, and that is what we go to the movies for.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
