Is George hurting for money, that he should agree to act in this feeble film with a script written by screenwriter with writer's block? At the end of the flick, many booed..including this critic. It was never clear who or what Clooney was...an arms provider, ex-spy. He shoots a woman in the first scene of the movie and that is never explained. He makes a special sniper rifle that is an off the rack Kalishnikov with an assult metal stock and a deer scope, which you can buy off the rack. Sex scenes thrown in. Forget this one. If you go see this "thing," don't say you weren't warned. Boring to toxicity.
Viewed this movie with fellow senior citizens early on opening morning in Northern AZ. One would suppose with the 3-D, CG Science, being what it is, that Lewis Carrol's timeless classic would take you down the rabbit hole with Alice....but alas, this viewer never lost the feeling that he was at the movies trying to awaken his inner child. Heard little laughter. A few worked-up applause...but even Depp's great personae couldn't lift this thing beyond two stars. I shouldn't have re-read the book before watching. For this Reader/Viewer, the magical trip with Alice came in the single dimension of Carol's magical pen.
Entertaining and so predictable. Butler and Heigl seem like 30+ teens who hate each others guts they have to be in love. The viewer says: hurry up and realize you're going to hook up...and live happily ever after. They even fly away in a baloon to somewhere over the rainbow. So if you're a teen at heart...enjoy. I wouldn't watch it twice.
Bossy Broad Bullock blackmails her male "secretary" into marrying her so she won't be deported to Canada....but the feds suspect fraud...and therein the plot is hatched. The soon to be newly weds visit Ryan Reynold's parents (very wealthy)...and put on a great show...but fall in love in the process...which we knew would happen...but movie is so well directed and both Bullock and Reynolds are a laugh riot. A chick flick a guy can enjoy.
Much was made between a wizard battle between Harry and Malfoy. Didn't happen. Malfoy sulked around in shadows for most of the film...one minor wand "shoot-out," then the two opponents just glare at each other until the end, when Snape steps in and Killy Dumbledor. Malfoy and his connection to the Dark Lord was never shown. Dark Lord never even appeared, except in flash backs of him as a kid. If this was the last of the Potter films...it fizzeled! Too much teen kissy face, love charms, which distracted from the mood of the film. Malfoy is not believable as a wizard hit man.
Body of Lies is not entertainment. By the end of the film you hate DeCapprio and Crowe who are conniving, CIA operatives. Leonardo gets an innoncent Arabian killed, while Crowe phones in murders while watching his kids soccer match. Yucky. That is how one feels after watching this film. I saw no smiles on the folks leaving the film. Don't we already know there is no way to win in the Middle East, without Hollywood rubbing our nose in it?
You will forget all the bullets fired and the explosions when Nick Cage kills himself and the bad guy. Written very poorly....and Cage plays an assisin that I marvel lived as long. He never seems in control of himself or his mission. He falls short of Jason Bourne by far. Having him apprentice a killer reminded me of the Karate Kid...didn't fit. It will be out on DVD soon. If you like Cage, go see it. But if you don't go...you won't miss much.
