Often times, movies present a problem without a solution. This movie presents a problem (problems), the history of how we got here, and solutions re: what each of us can do (and proof that they work). I appreciated the fact that this movie didn't resort to too many scare tactics, but instead presented a clear, straight forward idea of food today that allowed the viewer to come to his or her own conclusions as well.
It's been a long time since a movie made me think -- except the big difference with The Art of Being Straight is that it makes the viewer think without coming across as contrived or too "artsy". You care about the characters, you follow the story lines, and in the end, you're left with a movie that doesn't tie everything into a neat bow but rather gives the viewer everything they need to know to make their own conclusion. After all, in a movie that revolves around sexuality and relationship (and how very little regarding sexuality and relationships is black and white) how could it have a black and white ending? See this movie, you'll be happy that you did.
