Tarantino has definitely done it again in this Summer's hit Inglourious Bastereds. Sure to be one of the best movies of 2009, it pairs some great acting and Pitt's comedic-language side, that he's shown in several other movies. The Third Reich really comes face-to-face with Hollywood magic in this very entertaining comedic action-adventure.
Wasn't expecting the documentary angle throughout District 9, but really enjoyed this kafkaesque flick. The overall story was very well told, but from the angle of being partially in the story and partially a bystander watching the events unfold through media sources. The social aspect of the film was an interesting take on the way we treat outsiders, in this case shrimp-like alien "prawns". The apartheid is probably not too far off from the way groups of people have been treated throughout the years. It's fairly grotesque at times, definitely had me flinching, but I certainly didn't go into it expecting rainbows and daisies so I think it hit the mark. I certainly can't imagine having that mothership hovering over my city for 2 decades!
It's definitely "formula" when it comes to rom-coms's, but it was adorable and had a bit more vulgarity thrown in than normal, which was a nice change. Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler really seemed to play well off of each other and all of the others throughout the film, Cheryl Hines, Bree Turner, etc. were all a hit. I missed a lot because of the laughter and I know my husband is not this kind of man, but the movie was a hit to me.
A little slower than the others, but truly an epic film and one not to miss! It's amazing watching these kids grow up on the screen. Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter were outstanding. Everyone reminds me that this is only "the first part," but being one of the few that don't read the books you are definitely left wanting more.
This movie has been done and oftentimes better and with much more drama and action than Public Enemies. While the movie was certainly not boring or bad, by any means, it just lacked anything to make me want to see it again...other than Depp, who I am always amazed by the reach of characters he has up his sleeve. If you have a chance to catch this one do, but don't go out of your way for it.
If you enjoy horror this should do it for you. This is the classic Raimi horror flick, ala Evil Dead with just enough Exorcist thrown in to make your head spin (pun intended).
Not being a huge Star Trek fan it was odd that I was so looking forward to this movie and I was not let down. Sure there are a few issues with reality, but that's kinda what Star Trek has always been, right? They had plenty of action, great special effects and bursts of comedy that really kept it interesting, not to mention recalling people and comments from the original series.
It will take a few watches to get everything in this movie because of how much you're laughing. I thought Rudd and Segel just did a great job playing off one another and all of the additional people in the film were excellent. Definitely a good one to add to the comedy collection!
The character performance by Sean Penn is by far one of the most amazing he has given. I could hardly look away as he radiated the warmth and sincerity that Harvey Milk surely showed in his dealings with others. It was a wonderful movie and I would recommend it to anyone!
Saw it, loved it, picked it to win the Oscars and won our office pool with all the picks and wins I had for Slumdog. The story is so heartfelt that it's hard to not fall in love with these characters. The soundtrack is great and really helps tie it all together. If you haven't seen it yet, go now!!!
