Enjoyed the 3D version of Avatar quite a bit and even more than I expected to. From a movie-going standpoint, the story is quite familiar -- good guy who starts out as one of the supposed "us" goes over to the "alien" side and finds out who are the real "savages." (See "Dances With Wolves," among other movies). It also mirrors the disillusionment of the soldiers in Vietnam movies plus there’s the classic clash of scientists (save-this-remarkable-phenomenon!) v. military (smash-and-take-everything!) from sci-fi movies of the ages. The characters are appealing, and the relationships are touching. (Sigourney Weaver, one of the great action-flick divas, is underused.) Finally, of course, there's the look of the movie, which is brilliant.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
