Without a doubt, the best picture, actor, and supporting actor performances this year. They bring life to a historic fact about a King's life long struggle with a stammer and a commoner's effort to help him. There was general applause at the end of the film from a largely mature audience over 35.
The story line follows a young ten year old girl’s adventures into journalism and a robbery blamed on Hobos. The movie made a good faith effort to showcase how circumstances of the time changed people’s lives during the great depression. A lesson in learning to live with less and the dismantling of families was well illustrated. This part of the story was well done by all actors involved, but probably of lesser interest to anyone under eighteen. This film is a good Drama disguised as a Comedy. There is some humor, but it is limited, which must have been the director’s intent. So, if you are looking for a Comedy, I would look elsewhere. Otherwise, it is a good movie.
