This is the first time that I've felt as strongly about a film as to take the time to write a review about it. I'm not a professional critic, but I love movies and the art of film making. Heath Ledger's performance is absolutely outstanding. This, added to an already impressive cast and director/writer team, makes the movie worth seeing over and over again. The Joker in this movie is how I and most of the Batman fans have always wanted to see him, and have always imagined him to be. Every single scene with Ledger makes you appreciate the rare occasion when an actor is free to interpret and create a character that has been played twice already. The result was astounding. Christian Bale and Gary Oldman give their usual concrete and satisfying performances, along with Freeman and Caine. But the addition of such a volatile and menacing villian clearly gives the film the needed element of tension and antagonism. The 2.5 hour running time is hardly difficult to sit through and by the end, you're left with the bittersweet feeling that Ledger achieved his breakthrough, but last real performance. Aaron Eckhart rounds out the cast with an excellent performance as Dent. In a seemingly perfect film, from score to photography and acting to dialog, the only misstep that could've been improved upon was the casting of Gyllenhal as Rachel Dawes. But for a movie as beautiful and a Joker as murderously psychopathic, the choice of casting her can be overlooked. See it, then see it again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
