A man who engages in extreme, gory violence to save a book whose message will save humanity? Wait a minute. The book is the cause of the near-destruction of humanity. Contradictory? For sure. The plot makes no sense. So don't watch the movie for spiritual inspiration. Watch it for Denzel Washington's great performance. Gary Oldman is also good, but a bit over the top in places. Outstanding cinematography.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
