TRON Legacy is a first rate date movie, and an enjoyable visual romp. Eye candy abounds both in the sleekly soulless environment, the packed action sequences, and in the spandex garbed cast.
The storyline is sufficient to propel the action though the dialogue is bland and lacks an iota of wit.
Bridges reprising his Flynn, channeled through his Dude, is thoroughly enjoyable.
But Michael Sheen delivers the single fully realized characterization, proving that great stagecraft can overcome amateurishly weak dialogue. Sheen almost steals the show.
Disregard all of the poorly thought out and expressed metaphysics. It's just lame meaningless psychobabble. Quite evidently no one connected with this film understood what it meant.
Instead, jump on and enjoy the ride. You will have a fun time. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Fans of Wolverine beefcake will not be disappointed Fans of memorable action scenes and cool looking effects shots will likewise not be disappointed. Fans of really compelling storytelling should look elsewhere. There ain't none in this installment. Relentlessly flat dialogue, the by-the-numbers feel of something turned out by a computer application. Episodic structure. The direction is competent and workman like, but not more. Still, most fans are watching Wolverine for the beefcake, claws and kaboom and will not be disappointed.
