Exciting Fun times two

Jackie Chan and Jet Li work well together in multiple roles in this modern martial arts fairy tale. Their different styles and talents blend together effortlessly. Its lighthearted fun as the two work together to defeat evil and return the hero to his destiny.
There's a good lesson about finding your true power through loyalty and friendship. Revenge is not the true way to deal with evil. When you stand up to the bully you find your inner strength.
There are some very funny moments mixed into the excitment. Just watch out for the rain!
If you are a martial arts fan or even if you're not, you'll really enjoy this mythical romp through both today's world and ancient China.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Adrenaline Rush

Get ready for extreme action in this adrenaline pumper of a dark cop story. This is a world where cops are kings and there simply are no rules. That is, until things go horribly wrong and a snitch cop gets brutally gunned down in a store robbery just as he was about to be beaten up by the cop he was ratting out. The story keeps you misdirected and even if you are sure of where it is going, there is still a surprise in store.
Hugh Laurie enters the movie in a scene that is meant to make fans of House chuckle. His wry wit fits his role to a tee. Forrest Whitaker, though a great actor, seems a bit miscast here. People were laughing at some of his lines late in the film. Keanu Reeves gives his usual strong performance. Chris Evans has stardom written all over him. And Cedric The Entertainer Kyles is just great!
This may not be a cinematic masterpiece, but it sure is exciting. There are very few good guys to be found here but there is redemption. Its different and action packed!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Although I'm not a gambler, I'll just bet you'll enjoy it. Based on a true story of a smart but poor kid trying to find a way to get the money to go to Harvard Medical School, this film takes you on a roller coaster of winning big and getting caught and then taking it all on for one last big dangerous gamble. It made me smile a lot and caught me off guard more than once. Its definitely worth seeing.

This is a great film. There's lots of twists and turns in what first seems to be a simple heist. Michael Caine is in top form, but Demi Moore is amazing in her portrayal of a very different type of role for her. Demi really looks the part of a woman exec who has hit the glass ceiling of the times. Its set in the sixties. The story is really about people dealing with betrayal and the road to revenge. But motives and people are rarely as they appear. There's suspense and surprise. You'll like the ending! I really did.

The McDormand touch

I went with my wife an teenage daughter to see this one. We all loved it. Years ago this was the type of film that would have cast Marilyn Monroe in the role Amy Adams plays so perfectly here. Its light. Its fun. Sure its predictable, but its satisfying and leaves you smiling.
Frances McDormand is simply perfect for this role. Her transformation from living on the street to the high life in a day is seamless. And the running gag about her not being able to get to eat is handled so gracefully that you find yourself laughing when she finally gets an opportunity during a facial.
This is a very good date movie and its something you could actually take kids to see too! If you're a guy who avoids chick flicks, give this one a chance.

Rat a la mode

I absolutely loved this movie. It totally caught me off guard and surprised me with its simple and elegant story. The animation is excellent, but its the characters who grab at your heart. Although it is on its surface a story about a rat who can cook and a clumsy boy who can't, joining forces, its really an age old tale of friendship and loyalty that is both sentimental and beautifully told.
Several subplots all intertwine to make this a most enjoyable film. There's the story of the evil head chef whose greed destroys him, the girl meets clumsy boy love story, and the peer group story of the fellow rats wanting to horn in on the action. In the end everything comes together in a very satisfying conclusion.
I left the theater smiling and feeling like I had just had a very tasty meal! Who knew that Ratatouille is a dish best served in a movie theater with popcorn!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Treasure Hunt

Here's a fun movie that the whole family can enjoy. Its a joy ride and full of action. It defines the term "suspension of disbelief". You have to just let go of all logic and enjoy the wild ride across the continents. Nick Cage again leads his core groups of adventurers on a journey to find yet another treasure, but this time its personal. Nick and his film Dad Jon Voight want to clear their family name of the stain of treason going back to the days of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Always a breath ahead of the authorities and the opposing team led by Ed Harris, our heroes once again do their screen magic and leave audiences everywhere smiling.
If you are looking for a light fun film, this is it.

This was a unique and clever film spotlighting the talent of Ellen Page as a wise beyond her age pregnant teen. The plot centers on her concept of giving her child to what she believes is a worthy yuppy couple. Yet all is not as it seems and as the story unfolds it becomes a learning experience for her as she discovers that not everything is as it appears. As she learns from watching the relationships around her she begins to figure out her own relationships. There is a great supporting cast and marvelous directing. The story may not be very deep but it is quite entertaining like biting into a surprisingly delicious filling in a box of chocolates. This is a fun uplifting film.

Not another shoot em up

I've read the reviews of those looking for another action flick in vain here. So, if you are someone who is looking for another Die Hard type movie (and yes, I too enjoyed seeing the aging Bruce Willis save the world single handedly one more time), then this movie is definitely the wrong choice. Try to let go of the action flick genre for once and just look at the film as a study in character and violence, and give it a chance. Its different and in many ways a refreshing break from the usual vanilla flavor of Hollywood where all the loose ends are neatly tied in a bow. And it might actually stimulate you to do something most films don't...think!
If you would like to see a real intellectual study of how walking into the middle of a crime gone bad can take the lead characters down an unexpectedly violent journey, this is as good as it gets. The directors have grown since they released Fargo a few years back. Tommy Lee Jones is perfectly cast as the old sheriff who understands what is happening but is helpless to prevent its ultimate outcome. Josh Brolin is the hard luck cowboy who stumbles upon a crime scene and attempts to profit from it. His inherent decency and conscience lead him down the path of ultimate doom. Unlike most movies where good is triumphant, the Coen brothers study the advantages that the power of pure evil has over good. Javier Bardem represents that evil without anger. No Country For Old Men is a cinematic masterpiece.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Crime and Punishment

I loved this film. Although the plot was a tangled web, it always made sense leaving you wanting to see the next twist. It was refreshing to see Jason Statham not being used as a martial arts expert for a change. The movie tells a tale of petty criminals lured into a crime way over their heads by unknown powerful people who have an agenda of a totally different nature. No one is innocent and all pay a price by the end. But of course the movie reaches a satisfying conclusion. The acting, cinematography, and directing were top notch. Its funny. Its exciting. Its interesting. Its true!
