Besides The fact that the premise of the story is in itself provocative, the way the thing is delivered is extremely well done. Great photography and the acting is completely believable.
I am happy/sad it is over! I will miss the franchise but now I can relax and go back and watch them in order. The final segment was done with as much detail as you can squeeze out of a story (without actually doing an internal dialog as in the book) with all of the bells and whistles that 3D and today's CGI have to offer. A fitting end to the series.
And a good time was had by all..... Well almost, Steve played the conficted personality well, in career, relationship and life in general. Rob on the other hand was jovial (sometimes frustratingly so) and secure in his position in life. Laugh out loud funny through a good part of the film, I enjoyed both the trip and the food!
I agree with the majority of what I read here. The 3D effects were just ok and the story line left a lot to be desired. Good special effects but they didn't work that well with the 3D, a lot of double imaging and some blurriness.
For me, not only were the special effects superb and the story line wonderful, but the political undertones were well thought out and as far as the spiritual aspects of the movie, well I think all I can say is that Mr. Cameron gets it, I mean truly gets it! I hope that when people see this movie that either consciously or on some base level something inside of them is awakened to the realities that were so beautifully communicated through the indigenous peoples of the (fictitious?) moon Pandora. The message here is clear to me at least, all things are connected and we must stop our "insane" ways of thinking and acting.
C'mon people, you knew this was not going to be an intellectual film by any stretch of the word. The story line and acting was not the focus here, it was "how sensational can we make this". Who cares if the ground kept falling away after each step, this was mindless escapism entertainment at its best. I agree there was a lot that could have been done with it and it could have been made to be more realistic, but then you wouldn't have gone to see it!
Great footage, both new and old. I would have liked to see just a little more old footage. The sound mixing was a bit uneven. I understand that the concept was when showing a particular instrument to bring it upfront (show Keith-make guitar a little louder than everything else), but after the first couple of times it became distracting. The effect ended up sounding choppy. I come from the school of turning the soloist's instrument up for the entire solo and then blend back once finished. Ron Wood was ignored (buried) during most of his solos. I also (and yes, I know it is a "concert" documetary) found it mixed a little on the loud side, not a very clean mix between the instruments and vocals. In comparison with the U2 3D movie where everything was balanced perfectly.
