It seems the writers of Ice Age are out of ideas. The first one was great, the second was funny, and the third...well lets put it this way, if you have seen any ads for it on TV you have seen all of the best lines. The kids liked it at least (so it gets at least a 2), and the 3D part keeps you watching, but I suspect there are better movies to go see right now.
As I expected, WALL-E was another great Pixar movie that I can't wait to add to the DVD collection. While the story line was somewhat predictable (what children's movies aren't?), the subplots and messages are strong and deeper than I expected. Both WALL-E and EVE are likeable characters, but neither has the deep personality of a Lighnting McQueen or Nemo. My four year old was deeply touched by the message of love portrayed by the movie, and my six year old loved the action. This was probably a difficult movie to make, as there really is very little dialogue, so the majority of the story is told through images. I think this contributes to the thinness of the story line, but I didn't feel the story was too thin to warrant my time. We will definitely be going to see this again this summer as I suspect, just like all Pixar movies, there were plenty of little story lines and animation gems that I missed on the first viewing. We saw Kung Foo Panda last week, which was also good, but if I had to choose one or the other, I would go with WALL-E.
