fun movie for pre-teens

i took my 3 kids to see this; they're ages 14, 11 and 9. we all enjoyed it though it bothered us all that the plot veered far away from the book. special effects were really cool but acting was just so-so. knowing that the movie was going to be different from the book, i went with little expectations and just enjoyed the fun.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
