As someone who grew up only appreciating the sound trak I used this opportunity to catch up on the story. Not a genuine Trekkie, but I thought the characters were really well done and according to the Trekkie I watched it with, they evoked the characterizations of the originals very well. I loved the adventures of Kirk as a kid and then as an adult. Nice interplay between Spock, Old Spock and Kirk, and the touches of humor in their rivalry. It was a pretty imaginative journey and special effects especially in conjunction with Scotty. I was wondering if the voiceover at the end credits and soundtrack was that of William Shattner after all. That would be a cool cameo surprise after his outrage at being "excluded."
Yes, I recommend this movie.
