I never had the chance to read the graphic movie but I have known of its existence years prior. Since I am not comparing the film to the source material, this is purely a review critiquing the merits of the film alone.
First off, Watchmen is a very rich, detailed and complex story. It combined film noir with a modern detective story in an alternative 1985 where super heroes exist. Zack Snyder has an eye for visual flare and definitely puts it to good use.
Yes the movie is long, and I highly recommend leaving your children at home due to some very graphic violence, language, and nudity.
Overall, I highly recommend Watchmen and I look forward to see what Zack Snyder brings to the world of cinema in the future.
It was obvious from the beginning that this was no Casino Royale! The editing was rapid fire and it was hard to tell what was going on during the action scenes.
I know the Bond franchise needed a fresh start and it seems that angle is to copy Jason Bourne, right down to a rooftop chase!
Craig's performance is still top notch, unfortunately he was not given much of a story to really flesh out his character.
QoS was less a stand alone story and more of a bookend to finally give closure to the events of Casino Royale.
I,m hoping Bond 23 ups the ante and makes Bond fascinating again!
Remember Oliver Stone? Director of such acclaimed movies such as Wall Street, Platoon, JFK! He's no where to be found in W.
The film was very disjointed and really had no beginning or end. What you get a series of vignettes in the life of George W. Bush.
W. was rushed into production and you can see it in every frame. The editing was choppy and amateurish at best.
I will hand it to Josh Brolin and the rest of the cast who tried to make the most out of their characters. Too bad a weak screenplay and sloppy direction was not enough to elevate their performances into a coherent and compelling bio pic.
Perhaps in 10-20 years when the current administration is not as much of an open sore, there may be a new found respect for W.
I have been a huge Indiana Jones fan for pretty much my whole life! I was barely a year old when Raiders marched to theaters and by the time The Last Crusade hit, I was 10 years old and it was one of my favorite memories to see Indy in theaters during the summer of '89!
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for this newest installment!
The movie has been in development for over a decade with multiple writers attached to the script. If this is what they all liked, how bad were all the rest?
The movie played out like a campy sci-fi flick from the '50's which is what Lucas said they were trying to achieve.
The previous movies always had farfetched ideas surrounding supernatural religious artifacts. The thing was within the universe of Indiana Jones, they worked! However, the central plot of Crystal Skull is so far over the top, it completely ruined the movie for me!
Watching the film, it just did not flow with the continuity of the other films. The cinematography, the action scenes, the dialogue! Also, CGI PRAIRIE DOGS AND MONKEYS!
I knew I was going to be disappointed because George Lucas cannot produce a good movie to save his life, at least not since 89!
Give it up George, don't bring Spielberg down with you, he can still make a good movie every once in a while!
