My wife and I brought our six year old daughter and a friend to this movie. At one point, the friend leaned over to my wife and said, "I can't stay awake." If an animated movie puts a kid to sleep, it's probably not that good.
It's probably also not good when the animated characters are more compelling than the live-action characters. Russell Brand did a nice job of voicing EB and Hugh Laurie and Hank Azaria also did a nice job. James Marsden and Gary Cole made me want to flee as the typical disappointed Father and Slacker Son.
All in all, I wish we'd waited for the DVD.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

My wife and I took our daughter and a friend of hers (both five) to see this movie. They were engaged the entire time, really enjoyed the story and laughed quite a bit. My daughter is pretty easily scared in movies, and she got through this one pretty much unscathed.
The 3D effects were amazing. I haven't seen a 3D movie in a long time, but they have come a LONG way!
Very enjoyable for kids and easy for adults to sit through.
