Good story. Great acting. I gasped. I laughed (A LOT!). Kevin Hart definitely makes the movie a smash! All the actors, and most of the cameos, did a wonderful job. I will definitely buy this when it comes out on DVD. It'll go into rotation with Love & Basketball, Brown Sugar and The Best Man.
As a member of the original Karate Kid generation, I wondered if I too might be one of those whiners saying "They never should have touched it!" I'm absolutely not. I REALLY enjoyed this film. The storyline was true (enough) to the original but this film shines on its own. I saw this film with my 12 y.o. daughter and 60+ year old mom. We all agreed, "That was good!"
but not great. I'd seen reviews that said this movie was as good as the first Shrek. Not so. It wasn't a bad movie, but it didn't live up to its potential by any means. Also, witches, ogres and the evil little guy - too much for the little ones? Unlike many others, I didn't have a problem with the 3D effects. They were better than some recent films I'd seen. Nothing exciting, but definitely 3D. It was good to see Fiona with a bit of attitude and Puss made for a few giggles. The Shrek and Donkey characters got short shrift on this one. With Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, there should have been much more to laugh about. Perhaps it was the melancholy storyline, but the writers wasted a chance to leave us wanting more of these characters.
Saw this movie on Saturday, still giggling on Monday. I wasn't sure about it as I'm not a big Chris Rock fan and Tracy Morgan really gets on my nerves but, oh, did I enjoy it. I laughed and cringed and could not be still in my seat. James Marsden was hilarious! The best part was that everyone in the theater was having the same reactions. It was a blast! I highly recommend it but agree that it is not for children.
Disclaimer: I am relaying this review on behalf of my 17yo son who saw the movie while we saw a comedy. He'd been waiting months for this movie to open, but was mildly disappointed in the end. The plot was good, the action was awesome and the 3D visuals were unnecessary and seemingly done just so it could be sold as 3D. Overall, a really good movie that had the potential for greatness.
I laughed (a lot!) and cried (a bit). I enjoyed the movie start to finish. Was everything tied up nicely at the end? No. Does life work that way? No. I felt for the characters, even the grating Angela. Most of the story arcs were pretty easy to figure out before they were revealed, but there were a couple of surprises, too. The ending was a bit odd, but I think that was so it could end on a good note. Well done.
This was a very good movie. We went as a family (20 of us, ages 11-63) and everyone agreed that it was great. There were two consistent complaints..."not enough Madea" and "it's over, that's the end?!" Again, this was a very good movie (definitely worth seeing) that I feel would have been exceptional if it had provided a more complete wrap-up. I admit that for TP to have provided the ending I wanted, he would have had to add at least 30 mins to the film.
