When I first saw the teaser for this movie, I was expecting a suspense/thriller type of movie like Alien. After seeing the full trailer, I realized it was more of an scifi/action move like Independence day. The move itself was not bad, interesting story, great effects, but very poor acting. I very much dislike Eric Balfour and am not a huge fan of Donald Faison or Brittany Daniel. The redeemer of the move was Scottie Thompson who, despite the boyish name, is very beautiful and a good actress. The move was left completely open ended and set up for a sequel as is the nature of hollywood these days. I do think they have the genre labeled wrong as a suspense/thriller. It is definitely a scifi/action move even though there were a couple of suspenseful parts of the War of the Worlds type. In the end, it is worth seeing the in the theater for the special effects, just don't go in with high expectations.
The previews make you believe this movie moves a lot faster than it does. None the less, once I was drawn in, I was enthralled with story. Could have been better written. Acting was not bad, I am a fan of Matt Damon. The rest of the cast seemed to have decent talent as well. I might wait to watch this one at home, though. Don't think it was worth the full movie price.
I am really enjoying this new genre of 3D movies. It has come to the point where I will actually search out 3D movies playing before I look at anything else. This move sure kept up with the expectations of a good 3D move with some great action scenes. While the story might be lacking, it made up for it if you like to see some tough chicks kicking butt. And of course, it set it up for yet another installment in the series. Overall, the movie adds to a decent night out.
Unfortunately, this just wasn't what I thought it would be. If I could have given it 2.5 stars then I would have, but it just wasn't quite bad enough to give it a 2. The whole movie was very predictable. From the exact order of death to how it was going to end. There were only 2 very good parts, the opening credits where they are flying through the city upside down, looks awesome on the big screen. Secondly, the part where the devil was revealed, very creepy role played very well. Other than that the whole move was lackluster with mediocre acting and very predictable storyline that seemed to stick to a standard formula. At least it was a very short movie, only 80 minutes, so not too much of my life was wasted.
If you were a fan of the original Predator and were getting tired of the fairly lame AvP movies, then you should enjoy this. It is more akin to the original movie, but with it's own twist. Gritty action without the need to go too deep into the plot line. I was expecting more of Laurence Fishburn, but he still did good for the part he played. Probably the toughest I have ever seen Adrian Brody. Realistically, I would have given this a 3.5, but since you can't do that I leaned more towards a 4. Overall opinion is that it is worth seeing in a theater at least once.
I was a huge fan of the animated series on TV. This movie did not do it justice. It started out sticking right to the show, but as more time passed and the need to cover more ground became apparent, the changes to the story were unforgivable. Serious characters were severely downplayed and momentous parts were eliminated. The actors who played Aang and Katara definitely stood out above the rest, but poor acting filled a majority of the screen. I can go on for quite awhile about missed opportunities, incorrect TV to film translations and so on. Bottom line is, if you and/or your kids have not seen the TV series, you will probably enjoy this immensely. If you have seen the series, wait until this hits TV as well, but don't go to the theater. I still plan on watching the next two installments to this series, but will not be doing it for $12 a pop and will see it at home. Maybe M Knight should go back to his normal movies of no special effects and strange plot twists.
Some good action scenes. Great story backdrop. You don't always get enough of that with the super hero movies. Robert plays a great eccentric millionaire. Scarlet looking good as always. Some good lead-ins into the whole Avengers franchise. All in all, a good follow up to the first Iron Man. One note for those in the theater, I am assuming that most people seeing this saw the first Iron Man. Why in the world are you leaving the theater before the end of the credits? Didn't you learn the first time that you missed out? For all of those I watched leave, you missed out again.
I love Tim Burton. The guy is so creative with whatever he does. This movie is no exception. With amazing graphics, great acting by Depp and Bonham-Carter, along with a great story, this movie is sure to entertain all types. Especially loved the Cheshire cat and Anne Hathaway's over the top role as the White Queen. IMAX 3D gives it that extra umph that improves any movie made in this format.
This is the 4th time I have now seen this movie and all on the opening week. The last time I went to a movie multiple times in the theater was for Matrix. This is absolutely amazing on all levels. Has a great story, amazing graphics, intense action, all together great movie and still hasn't gotten old. I am even going a 5th time this weekend.
