My wife and I both enjoyed this movie. Was light hearted and funny for what was basically a high school flick. Emma Stone did a great job acting and was definitely carrying the movie.
Both David and Tina are wonderful. What can you say about two great comedians?
As another reviewer noted, the movie itself was not non-stop laughs. There are parts of the film that are hilarious, but other parts are droll and "yawn" - very inconsistent. (stay through the credits though!)
I like Tim Burton movies and this one is no exception. I found the acting was great, the story a classic, and the movie overall a good rendition of the story.
What I had trouble w/ if anything was the 3D. The glasses dim the movie (like wearing sun glasses in some sense) and you have to have your head positioned just so in order to haev the right 3D effect. This technology needs more work.
Like many have already commented, beautifically shot on B&W. The acting was for the most part stellar. Editing was also great.
But, I don't think the film did a good job (IMO) of motivating *why* all those bad things were happening.
[Possible spoiler alert] .
The movie intimated that children were for the most part responsible. But I couldn't tell why who was doing what. Maybe something lost in the translation? ( I know a little German - the subtitles were not always faithful to what I was hearing).
I left the theatre "disturbed" - not just because the material was disturbing (which it is), but because I felt like too much was left unsaid.
I was disappointed with this movie. Might have been that my expectations were so high beforehand I could only be disappointed, but ...
I'm not sure I knew what this movie wanted to be. It begins with a young girl experiencing her first brush with romance. This is then snatched away with her murder. We then see scenes of the inbetween afterlife intermingled with a suspense tale, with Suzy sometimes just an observer and sometimes a participant in the hunt. This mish-mash of moods leads to an uneven movie - it's hard to decide what to feel when.
The movie is certainly well made and well directed. I'd say it's worth a view, but don't set your expectations very high.
I plan to see it again. Good story, INCREDIBLE vision.
Upside: visually stunning, extremely well made movie. I was mesmerized watching this film, drawn into the almost real fanatsy it created.
Downside: I would vote the story as "ok." As my son said, "Pocahontas 2" except the Indians are aliens. Don't get me wrong -, the script is good, the story moves along at a good pace. But not terribly original.
Given the other great films the Cohen brothers have made and given the hype I had heard about this one, I was VERY disappointed.
Like other people commenting on it have noted, unless you are Jewish (and I'm not), you will have a VERY hard time relating to/follwong this film. I am also not sure what story the film makers were trying to convey - what, "life sucks, then you die?"
Definitely a "wait for it on cable" in the series. Technically, movie was good. Acting was good. What was hard to follow was plot. Maybe you needed to have read the book (I haven't).
I think one of Steve C's best so far. Not a perfect movie, but well worth seeing. Lots of great laughs, and for the most part, the movie has lots of action and moves at a pretty good pace.
Max goes from being a desk jockey to full fledged hero agent, one who gets the girl (99), saves the president, ... Max and 99 (Anne) have good on-screen chemistry.
I really enjoyed this movie, especially since I was told it wasn't very good before seeing it. I think the people who said that were wrong. The movie moves at a good clip, and I think Will Smith's character has pretty good depth. Will Smith did a good job in this movie. The story had a few surprises for me as well. Overall, worth seeing.
