District 9 is the most creative, well-thought out and exciting sci fi film in years and years. It screams out for an entire franchise, because the characters deserve even more development and the alien race, and their human relations, merits more investigation. It's amazing that this movie was made on only a $30 million budget, it's better than any $200 million blockbuster. Do yourself a favor and go see it.
One of the best films in recent memory! Milk is perfectly acted, well directed, and tells the story of Harvey Milk in a very compelling way. The film has a nice mix of historicity through telling the story of the gay rights movement, not in a dry or documentary-style but from the personal perspectives of key players. The characters are beautifully depicted and sympathetic.
Hellboy 2 is an unexpectedly big improvement on the first, with even MORE humor, more action, and really awesome effects à la Pan's Labrynth. A couple of lines in the movie are some of the funniest I've heard all summer.
