My favorite local theater (formerly The Bridge, now The Rave) has changed hands. No longer can I print tickets at home, four times as many commercials before the film, armrest missing from my seat, hand rails down the side of the theater missing, and out of focus projection. Complaints are met with a blank stare.
I liked the movie a lot but my gf got very queasy from all the hand held camera work bouncing around. I also found it distracting after some long stretches.
I wasn't terribly impressed with the latest offering in the Harry Potter films. Too much conversation and too little action. I saw it in IMAX and 3D. Only the first part of the film is in 3D and then it goes away.
This is one of those totally over the top movies that doesn't have one believable aspect in it yet it is still entertaining. Bai Ling, who in real life is totally nuts (my gf knows her) plays a totally nuts babe who chases Statham throughout the film because he saved her life and now she claims he owns her. Maybe an Asian thing.
There were a few times throughout the movie where I wondered what two reasonably good actors (Jason Statham and Amy Smart) were doing in a movie like this. But then I would get all caught up in it again and didn't care.
If you are up for some totally mindless and outrageous entertainment, then you will probably enjoy this film. But high art, it ain't.
I am somewhat at a disadvantage in that I have not seen or read the original graphic novel. So a lot of the movie didn't make any sense to me. For someone with so much power, Dr. Manhattan came across as kind of wimpy and did not have a very commanding voice.
There were certain parts of the film that were very impressive but overall it was just a so-so movie for me. I am glad I saw it but I thought it could have been better.
I am not offended by anything in this movie but was surprised at the level of profanity. I know that in real life people use a lot of profanity in every day life but the degree of it in this film in mixed company situations was way over the top.
That said, overall the movie was entertaining and everybody in it was very likable. I could have done without Traci Lords constantly chewing a huge wad of gum. And contrary to the review in the L.A. Times you never see Lords naked although you do see a number of other naked people in the film. One brief full frontal of a woman and another full frontal of a guy.
