If you're looking for historical accuracy you will be disappointed in this movie. I've read a great deal about the Tuskegee Airmen, the 99th Fighter Group, and was surprised to find that all the characters were fictional. None of the men which I've come to regard as American heroes such as General Benjamin O Davis, Colonel Charles Dryden (A-Train) were anywhere to be found. They were replaced by fictional characters and a canned Hollywood script. But what the heck, one of my favorite movies as a kid was PT-109. Same kind of thing. Reproducing history accurately doesn't always make for a entertaining movie.
That said it has some basis in fact and while the story line was predictable, it was entertaining and I was glad to have seen it. I recommend it to anyone. But if you really want to learn about these men buy yourself a copy of A-Train by Charles Dryden, or any of the other books written by these gentlemen. It's a great American story.
