We finally saw this flick last night—in IMAX 3D, which was so worth it and might warrant a second viewing! One can only imagine that audiences leaving "The Wizard of Oz" in 1939 might have felt the same sense of wonder after seeing a movie so far and away more visually stimulating than anything ever seen before. The 3D effects are less gimmicky and more enveloping as you feel that you are in the scenes, even if simply noticing the presence of insects. Avatar’s world is a gorgeous spectacle reminiscent of the beauty of a coral reef brought to land. It fits thematically right into the pantheon of many other great films like 2001, Star Wars Episode 6, Aliens (Cameron), Dances with Wolves, Titanic (Cameron), The Matrix, and Lord of the Rings.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
