The movie had more holes in the plot than a wedge of swiss cheese. It wasn't horrible but it definitely wasn't even close to what you'd expect from the preview (marketing geniuses). The plot was hollow and mechanical and the script was cheesy (no pun intended). McG should stick to directing Land o' Lake commercials or whatever it was he was doing before this. They should have paid attention to the original (keep it simple) and focused more on character development. Ah well, not a bad way to waste 2 hrs plus...
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Great! Obviously not for small children

An artistic and technical masterpiece but not for the little ones who might find it too scary or boring. Very original and beautiful. Remember, just because a movie is animated does not mean it is always for small children.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
