This movie will appeal to people of all ages looking for a lighthearted yet complex story line about a topic that most can relate to. At 50+/- you will appreciate the complexity even more – ie, to the genuine feelings that are portrayed. Meryl is brilliant in her portrayal of emotions felt by people of a certain age - a sense of routine doldrums, joy of life, fear, grown children love, self- awareness, balance, fear, guilt, exhilaration, and common sense practicality. That brought the best out of Alec Baldwin's part which was more cliche but worked very well in context. Steve was intentionally underplayed but added to the complexity of the final story - well done and very deep beyond the specifics of the story.
Was a fun movie - and the island scenery in French Polynesia was impressive. Was a bit centered around the two writers - Vince and Jon - to give a chance to use their one-liners and catch phrases - Jon tries too hard to be like Vince in his jokes... but if you like Vince Vaughn, you will like this movie. Other actors were very good. Story got a little redundant on the life message on be happy and real with your spouse but that took it from being a simple, stupid comedy to being a good comedy and worth seeing.
Movie was was a series unrelated scenes, jumping back in time and then forward - could not follow the movie - no redeeming characters - they were all bad guys with no ethics. Julie Roberts fell prey to getting her lips injected - and her lips were actually a distraction throughout the movie!!! - something an old lady trying to stay young would have done...clive outstaged her... but there dialogues and interaction was like ice water - no chemistry, and amateur scripting...
