As in any MIyazaki/Ghibli film - its a joy to watch - however, I had not read any of the Earthsea books from whence this story is written... there is repeated reference to death, and the inevitability of death for life to continue to be precious... the opening has a child stabbing and killing his father...and we arent sure why that happens except for the fact that 'he hasnt been himself lately' ...and the big struggle is with one wizard who wants eternal life.. Many many death references and many scary images of the gruesome ever changing wizard... so be aware of your child's ability to face death concepts before you take them to see this one.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

3D alone is worth seeing - animation!!! Fluorescent Navi just beautiful. Lead actor is Hot & does a terrific job. Ignore the terrible, schmaltzy music - the score is right out of the 80's adventure flick syndrome complete with a stupid Celine Dionesque credits number and also feel sorry for Sigourney Weaver who is given the worst hairdo of her stellar career...but go see the film for all its greatness outweighs these oversights!! A fun XMas holiday flick for sure... and DONT MISS the HURT LOCKER...by James Camerons exWife Kath Bigelow.. now THATS an AMAZING FILM!! Perfect small movie, tense, moving, real and those actors are sublime. My vote for best picutre of the year: THE HURT LOCKER.
