I was really disappointed; other then the early part of the film which was both insightful and adventurous, the scenes on the island seemed just that - a series of disjointed actions and conversations. There seemed to be no flow , just a lot of introspective navel gazing. Who are these creatures , what were they doing there, why so aggressive with each other? I got the metaphors but boy was it unsubtle for adults and way over the heads of kids.
It's not the greatest movie I've ever seen & it certainly lacks the feel good quality which a happy ending, aka closure, would bring but Garcia's growth as a person was at least beneficial & overall I found it thought provoking.
With the apparent increase in mental health problems in the world, it does beg questions about wasted talent & also how the richest country in the world handles this.
Beautifully acted, written & directed. A slice of the darker side of LA/USA.
disappointed in latest IJ movie...would agree with previous reviewer who said that characters underdeveloped in favor of special effects.
Also plot was unconvicing & confusing; in these "Boys Own" action movies it's better to keep the bad guys clearly evil - in this movie the anti-heroine was too complex.
