great acting and action

Many people say that the pacing was good and there was never a dull moment. However, I'd have to say that some of the times between the action sequences got a little boring. Good thing there weren't many of those moments. I heard the second one was supposed to be the one with all of the action but this one was chock full of it.
Took my 9 year old and he was also bored with those moments too but we loved it none-the-less.
I was surprised with one scene but it wasn't bad. The acting was great and Helena Bohnam Carter as always, steals the scene.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

not so cheesy

The trailers had me thinking that this was going to be pretty cheesy. However, since there were no kids movies out that we hadn't seen yet we decided this was probably the most appropriate one for them. I took my 5 and 8 yr. olds and their eyes were glued to the screen. Mine were too for that matter.
Constant action with an interesting story line and the ending did not disappoint. There was an Aladdin-esque scene in the movie, really you can't miss it as Disney has put out both movies, you'll point it out right away. I think I even saw part of the set from Indiana Jones and the last crusade in one scene.
Despite many people's take on Gyllenhaal pulling off an action character, he did a really good job. He was very much with the character though I can understand the misgivings--he doesn't have that... grit about him, and his eyes are too soft.
Definitely recommend as something easy and fun to watch.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

a bit long but ok

I was a bit reluctant about wanting to go see this movie not because it is a remake of a classic but because of the almost 2 1/2 hour running time. The trailers for the movie did their job though and had me brushing off the running time in favor of watching some kung fu.
It was long and at times seemed dragged out. The dramatic scenes were blase and only served to make the movie feel slower and had me rolling my eyes.
Although Smith's acting was decent I felt like there was something off with his and Chan's timing. They just didn't really seem to flow with one another as part of their training in the movie suggested. There wasn't any real chemistry between them. I thought that the real scene stealer was the main antagonist Chang, played by Zhenwei Wang.
The tournament at the end showed some impressive fighting moves and I wished it would have been longer. Cut the drama, add more tournament fights or longer tournament montage.
I took my 8yr. old and he really liked it. So I am giving this 4 stars. I would recommend this as a matinee or rental if you are an adult going on your own, if your still hung up on the 80's version, or on the fence. Otherwise, go ahead and take your kids, they will enjoy it and maybe you'll appreciate it too.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Kids loved it!

At first I was a little iffy about seeing the movie myself although the kids really wanted to. I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it thoroughly. There are not any innuendoes thrown in to keep adults interested like say...Shrek (having kids ask what this or that means). It relies on a good story line, relationships between father and son, the village outcast, and learning before you judge others. My children are 5 and 8, a girl and boy respectively. I asked how they liked the movie and my son said, "Great!", my daughter, "I love this movie." Lots of action. It was fun to watch the boy learn about the dragons and yes the Terrible Terror was kind of scary but it didn't bother my kids at all and did not appear for lengthy periods throughout the movie, though was a big part of the end.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
