Good but not Great

So many people who's opinions I trust recommended I see this movie that I had to go. And it was quite interesting and thought-provoking. But it was also a bit pretentious (the music, the heartbeats, etc.), and I kept wondering why it was in 3D except for the fact that an extra admission could be charged. Still, I'd recommend it as a unique opportunity to see these incredible works of art.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Nice, but not great

I liked it, but of his more recent films, I liked Tall Dark Stranger and Vicky Christina Barcelona better. The deck was certainly stacked from the beginning. The wife was one of Allen's most annoying creations ever, and her parents were cardboard villains. Of course the guy was going to yearn for something else (in spite of the fact that he was sooo passive). The literati in the past were sketch comedy figures, and the overall theme was so baldly stated near the end of the movie, I thought it should have a mocking title, "Author's Message" over the characters' heads (as they did in "What's New Pussycat" which Allen wrote). Okay, Woody, you love Paris. So what? Everybody loves Paris. Tell us something new.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Beautifully crafted and acted. No-one does this sort of thing better than the Brits. I loved The Social Network, but I think this one will sweep the Oscars.

#1 All-Time Favorite Film

This is my favorite film of all time. Ozu was as much a master of cinema as Chekhov was of theatre and the short story. To me, TOKYO STORY is the best of Ozu. It is almost unbearably good. By that, I mean it penetrates the heart so deeply that it's almost painful to watch. That's why it's such a shame that the only existing prints are so poort. The original 16mm print was destroyed in a fire, and although one must be grateful that the film can still be seen and cherished in some form, the loss of the original of such a magnificent work of art is as profound as if the Mona Lisa were destroyed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Visually dazzling, but not really dreamlike. Often seemed like a James Bond movie with Matrix-like special fx. DiCaprio character's personal story holds you, and given the complexity of the descending-levels concept, the film stays fairly comprehensible throughout. But, curiously for a movie about dreams, there was a certain lack of imagination about the subconscious. Definitely Bunuel did dreams better.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Lush, sensual, satisfying. Best movie I've seen this year. Swinton is stunning. Only quibble: Wasn't crazy about the self-conscious whip-edits in some scenes. Otherwise, yum.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

"Pressure Cooker" is a deeply accomplished film tracing the stories of inner-city kids in their quest to rise above their circumstances through hard-earned culinary skills. The interwoven stories tug at the heartstrings while maintaining a tough and realistic view of the difficulties of achieving one's dreams. The film definitely deserves a commercial release.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
