I read the book a week before we went to see the movie and was glad I did. It did help with the ability to understand the story line as somethings were changed, a lot was added and I was anxious to see how they could possibly make this book a movie. I see now. A long drawn out "war" that seemed unending. I also read an article in World magazine where the directors were interviewed explaining their decisions to add a lot of things to "enhance" the plot line. They're explanation of having Peter have this inner struggle was never quite explained in the movie the way they hoped it would be conveyed. One would never know their reasoning for adding all this if they hadn't read this particular article. I'd have to say the movie was just okay and a bit drawn out. Unlike the first one, which is always the best, we will purchase it when it comes out on DVD (I'm sure just in time for Christmas sales) but we won't be as eager to watch it again and again as is the case with the first one. I know many people are anxious to see this sequel as we were, but we were honestly disappointed. As endearing as the first one was, it was tremendously big shoes to fill that didn't quite make it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
