Don't be misled by the positive rotten tomatoes

This was honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen. The tone was all over the place, swaying from serious action movie, to melodrama, to comedy, to just plain bad. Director, Joe Wright is trying hard to be clever with endless symbolism, but it just comes off as obnoxious and distracting, failing on almost every level. As a result, the film is "self aware." For me, this meant that I was not absorbed by the film at any moment and I don't generally like films like that.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Novel in execution but fails to fully satisfy

There are some funny moments and the execution of the movie is novel (note: "novel", not brilliant) - Expect non-stop references to old-school video games. Here's the thing - I have a particular problem with films that start out with a ridiculous unbelievable concept, especially when "why" the series of events that takes place is either not explained or, justified in a way that is just plain stupid. This film falls into that category. So, this guy Scott has to fight his new girl's 7 evil x's, which for some reason her first boy friend thought would be a fun game when he got dumped... Er... yeah.... that's the concept... oh... and they're all bigger and more popular than Scott, yet somehow because life turns into a video game when he's starts to fight he's able to beat all of them. Maybe I just missed the point, but am I the only person who thinks there's something flawed about the main concept here?
No, I do not recommend this movie.
