This movie (I got roped into going with my wife due to Valentines Day) was your typical chick movie: Predictable relationship rejections followed by the oh-so-cute "He Finally Admits He Loves Her" moments. Puh-leeze.
It had way, way too many interwoven situations, ie, so-and-so works with what's-her-face who's cheating on who's-it's husband, who'd buddies with so-and-so's brother...blah, blah, blah.
And we're supposed to root for Gigi??? She was supposedly portrayed as the "forlorn, lovestruck young woman", but she was a PSYCHO STALKER!! I wasn't rooting for her to finally find love--I thought she really needed to find a straightjacket and a padded cell.
This was a decent movie, though not great. It follows the recent trend in spy movies upping the ante in brutal torture scenes--some of which had my wife wretching in her seat nearly in tears. There are some great action sequences, and a lot of excitement. Dicaprio plays a CIA ground spook in Jordan, trying to capture the uber-terrorist Al-salami--clearly based on bin-ladin. Dicaprio'ss boss, Crowe is based in washington, and keeps micromanaging DiCaprios operations, causing his Jordanian contacts to lose trust in him. This meddling gets his Jordanian love interest in trouble, and Leo must save her. <Possible SPOILER Below> There is a utopian wrapup here which is less-than-realistic, but it for entertainment's sake it worked well.
