An enjoyable romp through Middle Earth. Not as majestic and epic as the LOTR trilogy, but a fun chance to revisit the world. A bit uneven in temperament and a little bloated, but still a good time.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My son and I went to Hugo with only a vague sense of what it was about, and were thoroughly enchanted by what it turned out to be. We found it very engaging, thoughtful and entertaining, while being happily immersed in the richly textured world created by the film.
I thought my son would enjoy it, but I came away even more delighted than he was. What a welcome treat!

Mildly entertaining

Didn't need to leave the theater groaning, but only mildly entertaining. Too bad such a touching, quirky story got reduced to glossy pablum as a movie. Getting very tired of attractive white family with two perfect kids living in extreme luxury. Nothing too interesting about that. Story was ridiculous in a tiring way. My 8 year-old son loved it though, and that was all that mattered on Father's Day.
Inspired, outrageous fun, with brilliant skewering of a multitude of classic cinema icons. I reveled in the non-linear unfolding of a truly engaging and entertaining tale.
