I have read some of the one star reviews and realized that this movie requires a "letting go" to the layered process of dreams as well as the abstractness of dreams....i.e., anachronisms, reality and time morphing rapidly. I thought Christopher Nolan accomplished an amazing feat of moving the movie-goer into the layers (actions and plots within the layers) of actively created (shared) dreams. I was blown away at the end. I do understand that some people do not want to experience such complexity (of the imagination) but I eat this stuff up. I thought it was a blend of the "Matrix", "What Dreams May Come", "The 13th Floor", and action flicks (good ones).
Bad script, bad plot - a total play on violence with all the trappings of foreign bad guys, drugs and terrorism - all solved in 24 hours. John Travolta is decent but Rhys-Meyers had a poor script to work with and it made his character look ridiculous. I turned to my husband halfway thru the film and said they must have made the movie in 2 months...and he commented "that long?" Save your money and watch the DVD if you like.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

What can I say?! This is a beautiful film - the music, the dancers, the care taken by the musicians, choreographers, technicians, etc...AND of course Michael! You see how gifted and creative he was. You also see how much he wanted to get the message of Love out into the world. Overall, the movie rocked! I wanted to dance, sing and applaud the whole time I watched. Also, stay through the credits - you'll see why.
Great movie! Great commentary on modern society. The film shows how we live our lives thinking that we are being real and authentic when in fact our reasons and ideologies are quite superficial and self-serving. Whether it manifests in an individual's perception of him or herself or within a marriage, or even an organization - the hypocrisy is rampant without anyone realizing it! What a crazy, funny, poignant movie.
