My wife and I both thought this movie was a waste of time. We saw it in 2D but it was clearly oriented toward the 3D. So, it was amovie that couldn't stand on its own and was clearly claiming for popularity based on technology. The movie plot line was way off base with regard to the book --- they didn't even get the age of Alice right, just to build up a very silly scenario that was unnecessary. Depp was nowhere near as good as he can be.
I LOVE pandas, so I wouldn't have missed this for the world. The plot line was simple; the script humorous and it presents a good message for kids --- believe in yourself, not some imaginary power. Lots of good laughs; some unexpected; action, but not the sort of thing you wouldn't want your kids to see. It's fun for adults and kids.
This was a very good movie --- despite the fact that you had to go through a series of run-backs, it held your attention and each pass built more on the story. The suspense was good, but I figured out the key to the plot early on. It was a matter of watching how it played out. WARNING: LOTS of dead bodies. It does dtretch reality somewhat in that some situations are clearly improbable but you can ignore thoase and enjoy the movie. Hey, Star Wars was unreal but it was great.
