I had some reservations about Adrien Brody in an action movie, but I happily admit that I was wrong. Brody does a great job playing the austere mercinary leading a pack of very dangerous people through the jungle of an alien planet. This is also the first scary movie that I have seen in a while that was truly unpredictable, and the scares came more from suspense than from physical gore. It helps to have seen the original Predator film, but I think anyone can follow this new Predator film just fine.
This has to be the most enjoyable movie I have seen since May. It has just the kind of colorful characters, engaging dialogue, and wild action that Tarantino is known for. He sticks to his uniqe use of music to emphasise mood when dialogue won't suffice, and Samuel L. Jackson provides voice-overs in key points of the film where some explanation is required. This film is a lot of fun!
This is one of the best adaptations of the Harry Potter novels of the whole series. Things get intense as the audience learns more about Voldemort, things also get silly as Ron starts having more luck with girls. The teenage drama aspect may slow the movie down a bit, but I think it struck a good balance with the darkness of the looming danger all of the characters are in. The 3D part at the begining was pretty cool, and worth the extra money I paid to see it. Check it out while you can :)
I was not expecting very much out of this film, and I did not get very much. The stoy is flimsy and the acting is poor, but I was prepared for that. What I wasn't prepared for was the deja vu I experienced. All the flashy action sequences were rip-offs off Iron Man, Independence Day, and X-Men 2, just to name a few. I don't recommend maing a trip for this one.
When I first heard the they were making this movie, I thought it was just a cash grab, but I was wrong, this was quite good. Hugh Jackman does a superb job telling Wolverine's story; how he got the ademantium claws, and why he had no memories of his life at the begining of the first X-Men movie. Things got a litle too predictable toward the end though, and like in the X-Men movies, I think some characters were watered down to a fault. But overall this was a good movie...oh, and Jackman looks absolutely fantastic.
This is a wonderful movie whether you are a trekkie or not. I got so caught up in the story, that it felt shorter than 2 hours. However, this is not a movie that you can walk out of to use the restroom, the story is too complext to turn away from for any length of time.
For the second time in less than five years, Christian Bale has revitalized a dying franchise. Terminator Salvation is the Terminator movie that I have been waiting for: One where John Conner is a grown up and is facing the detiny that we've only heard about for the last 25 years. We see the machines, we see the battles, we see the factory where Arnold's character was built. Also, Sam Worthington does an excellent job as the cyborg protector of both Conner and Reese. That man has a bright future ahead of him.
I should admit that I am not really a fan of opera, but I can say with 100% confidence that any fan of the opera will love the HD presentation of Madame Butterfly. I took my mother out to see it as a birthday present, and she really enjoyed every minute of it. There are even interviews with the cast during the intermissions between each act. Overall, it was worth every penny that I spent, and it was a worthwhile experience of music and art.
I had aleardy seen the standard TDK in theaters more than once, but when I heard that the IMAX version was being re-released, I felt like taking one last ride. I'm very glad that I did, because this was a lot of fun. The bigger screen helps to immerse the audience in the story, and I saw several things more vividly than I had in the standard version. It was also louder than the standard version; the floor was shaking with each shotgun blast and every explosion. I think if you love TDK, and want to give it a sendoff to compensate for the Oscar snub, go see it in IMAX while you still can!
This is an excellent movie that highlights a chapter in WWII history that few filmakers have explored before. Not enough people realize that not everyone in WWII Germany was under Hitler's spell. The story is fast paced and intense. Also, this film goes a long way to redeem Tom Cruise for his odd behavior over the last few years...he is a fine actor when he really commits to a role.
