Great Western

While it never grabs you emotionally, this is a great western and for that it should be seen. Westerns are so few and far between that when a good one comes along you gotta love it.
Disturbed by animal death? Lots of humans die brutally in this film and nobody complains. Says a lot about where this society is, more concerned about roadkill than human suffering. And if you bring your kids to a PG-13 Coen Bros movie, shame on you. How hard is it to check the movie rating and know your kids threshold for adult themes? These must be the same people that bring crying babies into theatres instead of getting a babysitter. Do us all a favor and stay home and wait for the DVD.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Snooze-a-palooza

This movie commits the cardinal sin of movies-IT"S BORING. The acting is just okay, not memorable. The last battle scene looks like "Saving Private Robin." It even copies the boat landing on the beach and the below-the-water cinematography. It looks ridiculous. These characters all go through their "development" so grimly that you don't care what happens to them by the end. Is there going to be a good movie released this summer? Get me to the Greek!
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Ignore the critics

Everything iabout this movei is top-notch. Directing, acting, writing, costumes, and sets are A+. I was hooked by both the story and the visuals from beginning to end.
Have you read the critics? They have a herd mentality and the groupthink is that this movie is a failure. Lots of sniping and catty insults directed mostly at Tim Burton. Why? Doesn't he play their game their way? Not a good interview? Does he openly disdain these negative nabobs of negativism? He should.
Th joke is on the no fun gang. The movie is a huge hit and the public loves it. Most criics were weened on sour pickles, or so it seems.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

What happens in NEW YORK

Titles can sometimes be misleading. This is the classic example. Maybe 15 minutes of the movie takes place in Vegas. There are so many possibilities for visual wows and comedy at the expense of the 25-35 yr olds that go to Vegas these days. We see about 2 minutes of high jinx and 10 minutes of big plot point of the winning slot spin. Then it's back to New York and one hour of Ashton Kutcher's apartment.
If you want to make a great comedy in Vegas give us more Sin City. At least a flying Elvis or a poker game with Jerry Tarkanian. There's ten times more action on Wall St. than the Vegas strip in this movie.
On the plus side, Kutcher and Diaz have great chemistry. I would like to see more of them in really good movies.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

If you love Audrey ike Iove Audrey

First of all, this is a first-rate romanic comedy. It takes twists that you don't expect. Not your usual boy gets girl, loses girl, get girl back. It is very French in attitude. The scenery is spectacular. The hotels, bars, shopping, and (most of )the people, are beautiful. Which brings us to Audrey Tautou.
The camera loves Audrey. I can't think of any other actress who could play a ruthless gold digger and still come off as innocent and vulnerable. The producers of the film have captured her appeal perfectly in this role. With her sweet doe eyes and killer body she is, in a way, playing herself in this movie. She makes too few movies that get shown in the US. More Audrey Tautou, please!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Statham's best yet

My wife and I are big Jason Statham fans. No matter how unrealistic the movie is, he always brings a sense of realism to each role. Have you ever seen "Crank"? Starring anyone else it would have been a turkey.
Not only is "The Bank Job" a great movie with a believeable plot, it allows Statham to show what he can do in a movie that is exciting and rooted in reality. Best movie of 2008!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
