The movie was just meh. I really liked Taken, so I had hopes for this movie. One of the few problems I had with Taken was LIam Neeson as a bad-ass, like say Damon in the Bourne series. Neeson is just too old for that sort of thing. However, this movie toned that down a bit for the most part and it was more believable. Still a bit too much, but not as unreasonable as Taken.
However, that said, the rest of the movie was just meh. The extended, artificial suspense of him trying to get the scissors was almost too much. Anytime a movie generates artificial suspense like that, you know the director either has no idea what he's doing or the movie is so bad that they have to add artificial scenes like that. Fortunately, that was really the only instance of that in this movie, so it didn't completely go off the rails.
The acting in the movie was good and the plot moved along nicely, even if it was a bit formulaic. The "twist" ending was decently handled. My other major beef, though, was with the car chase(s). They were utterly ridiculous and brought me completely out of the suspension of disbelief. Somehow an SUV going forward is unable to keep up with a car going in reverse? Or an SUV, with a severe weight advantage is unable to knock a car off the road? Or both vehicles are driving with a bunch of columns in between them... why not just hit the brakes and turn around, since the SUV won't be able to follow you. So many idiotic moments during the chase scenes made me want to chuck the movie.
All in all, it's worth watching on video. Don't bother wasting your money in the theater, though. There's nothing here to give it a better presentation on the big screen. It's something to watch when you have nothing else more exciting on a boring evening.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Better than expected!

Wow! This movie was much better than expected. I expected a quirky movie, for sure, but it was so well executed and far more over the top than expected... and in a pleasant way.
It was very much like a video game - the previews made it out as such, and I was expecting it - but usually it's a half hearted, poorly executed attempt - but whoever wrote the script knew video games well and also knew how to translate that into a movie.
It was great and I would recommend it if you enjoy games at all and if you enjoy quirky movies at all. Definitely a must see.
Complete lack of story development. If you like actions movies with very little plot, then this movie is for you. It was essentially just an hour and half of Angelina Jolie chase scenes.
There was a hint of drama and story when she was on the boat, but the complete lack of dialog or even any visual emotion pretty much left the story for dead floating in the sea.
As a pure action flick with no story, it's a decent movie... but if you're looking for something with more meat, it's going to take a lot more than Salt to fix this meal.
