Very entertaining movie - not age specific (although clealy targeted towards kids). Well written and well crafted. IMAX 3D (other than the price) was worth it. Although you can see this on the flat screen, the 3D rendering is excellant and not just an afterthought.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Don't bother - it was better done in the original with Lon Chaney.
