I REALLY tried hard to like this movie, but in the end it was just an extremely awkward speech therapy session. Fabulous costumes, photography and acting, but the storyline was just dreadful. A lot of obvious one-liners that seemed to amuse the audience. In the end I didn't care about any of the characters or the story.
This classic remake has a lot going for it: great actors, fantastic costumes, terrific sets, fabulous makeup and special effects. Sadly, it lacks two essentials to make a successful movie - a story and a competent story teller.
I love that film makers wants to recreate classic cinema, but I almost always hate the result. "The day the earth stood still," "The war of the worlds," and now this pathetic mess. Horrible jumbles of the original stories carelessly flung at the screen with a handful of special effects and a couple of big-name Hollywood stars.
This is yet another handful of interesting special effects in search of a story. You won't miss anything by giving it a pass.
The story was incoherent, the costumes went from 1950 to 1990, I didn't care about any of the characters and what the heck was up with that stupid, flower child font?!
Save your money...you'll get more enjoyment from people-watching in the lobby.
