It's a great movie and I recommend it whole-heartedly. It does bother me just a little bit that a rogue mining ship can destroy a task force of Starfleet ships, but I suppose that's why we need James T. Kirk. I love the backstory on Bones. Not sure I like the new spin on Spock.
I went with some friends, we all agree that the movie seemed a lot longer than 2 houts. Not in a bad way -- none of us could come up with a place it dragged, but it subjectively felt as long as a Harry Potter flick.
An interesting mix of a very human story with a very over-the-top premise. The script leaves a feeling of lots of missing backstory -- they don't even try to explain everything that's presented to the viewer, which is pretty refreshing. It has the special effects we expect of summer movies, but doesn't really need them to move the story along. I have a sense that this movie will wear well over repeated viewings.
