I have to admit that I was not too keen on seeing this movie as even the trailers didn't make it seem too appealing. I will also admit that the movie was better than I expected it to be, but was simply too long as are most James Cameron films. Graphics are great, musical score was also great, and love the sense of tribal community. Not at all what we're used to seeing from traditional major studio film. Be prepared for a serious case of booty-itus at the conclusion of this film at two hours and forty minutes.
I truly enjoyed watching this movie. The special effects were great, but there were some parts that were just too unbelievable and had my "okay that is pure BS" meter going off. Also, they could have cut out some of the back story to make the movie come in at just below or just above two hours. It's fully about a three hour experience once you factor in the previews.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Best Was Yet To Come!!!

I took my mother to see this movie and we both agreed that for Michael the best was yet to come. He was involved in every aspect of the show from selection of the dancers, to choreographing their movements in costume on stage, to tone and tempo of instrumentation, etc. I was amazed at how gracious he was to those around him. Always thanking everyone with LOVE! Truly one of the best entertainers of all times. Don't miss this rare glimpse into the mind of a musical genius. He will be missed.
I took my mother to see this movie and we both enjoyed its scope, depth, and true sense of comedic timing tied into a clear message that was being delivered. As an African-American male this is not so much of an issue for me, but I grew up in a house full of women who underwent the process of putting those chemicals in their hair. For those that have yet to see the movie...watch very carefully what happens to those cans over an elapsed period of time. Talk about things that make you go hmmmm! All and all, an enjoyed movie that makes a timely reference to something that has been going on in the Black community for decades.
As a former member of a top twelve corps who can no longer committ to traveling to finals locations, I love these shows. I've been lucky enough to make every theater based showing since the first one five years ago. I was even happier to learn that there was a showing even closer to my home. Normally, I would have to drive about fifteen miles away from home. I met up with a good group of drum corps fans in the theater who all enjoyed the performances and being able to share in the experience with other "drum corps heads." Count on my presence next year...with a doubt.
