My friends and I took our kids to see it and they loved! We all read the books and even though the movie is missing big chunks of the story including Aries, we loved it and would recommend it! One of the kids said it was the best movie ever and another gave it a 10 out of 5!!!
It does have quite a bit of violence and could easily be scary for younger kids. Our kids are 9 and older.
