Will Ferrell and Tina Fey's voice talents made this movie funny for the kids and the adults. The 3-D effects were so-so, nothing terribly thrilling but made it fun for the kids. The characters were excellent, animation amazing, storyline quite good with some nice surprises to keep the viewer guessing. The complexity of the relationships between some of the characters will certainly go over the heads of kids 12 and under. My only criticism is that these complexities may even serve to bore kids at certain points. Otherwise a good movie probably worth the trip -- and expense --of an afternoon at the theater.
Brought a 5, 7, and 9-year-old to this movie. The younger ones lost interest about 2/3's of the way through. The 9-year-old enjoyed it. There were only about two or three laugh out loud moments in the movie -- and kind of weak ones at that. Worth it for maybe an 8-11 year old but that's about it. Chipmunks were adorable of course, plot pretty lame, and acting was just about passable.
