I have seen the Discovery channel documentary of this story and also have seen interviews with the Snedeker (Parker for the movie) family. This story goes off on a wild tangent. I think the true story was alot scarier. There were no bodies found with symbols cut into their flesh, no seances or boy medium every found to be a part of the history of the house. Not much was known other than it was a funeral home. This movie goes to show that "Based on a true story" is a term used very loosely in Hollywood.
Once again i have been duped by a trailer that made a movie seem like it was going to be great ,but ended up being terrible. The movie starts out like it is building momentum, but never gets back to or explains opening sequences. It's like they fired the writers half way into the movie. The original from the 50's was way better. It seems like the movie was produced by Al Gore to get some liberal, Green, We are destroying the Earth meassage across, and that's it, and of course the racial interbreeding subliminal message with Jennifer Connelly having been in an inter-racial marriage with a black son. To show their support of Angelina Jolie i guess.
I saw the trailer for this film, and from the visuals and the fact that it starred Mark Wahlberg, I thought it should be decent. The trailer was totally misleading, I figured it would be a Constantine, paranormal type triller, but it was just another lame adaptation of a video game relying mainly on effects and action sequences. The story made no sense whatsoever and didn't follow through. It was jumbled, scattered and just a terrible screenplay. I thought the plot would entail Angels and Demons when it just came down to murdering junkies hooked a mind altering, steroid drug that was used on soldiers in Iraq such as L.S.D. in Vietnam.
This movie started out really good, but just takes a pointless direction. I am a big fan of the Cohen Brothers, but this was a real disapointment. Brad Pitt is the highlight of the whole movie, supplying the few laughs in it., Until he gets killed in the middle of the film. The plot just ends suddenly with no satisfaction to anything but making a point of how most Americans today are superfical and greedy. I expected a funny, Big Lebowski type movie, but it really just left me feeling disgusted, what a depressing pointless story.
I enjoyed this movie more than i thought i would. For once the Computer animation Lucasfilm is known for fit better without live actors. The storyline kept my attention, and expanded some on the whole Clone Wars time line. I felt some things could have been expanded on a little more, but overall i was throughly entertained.
AT 1st i was really iffy about this movie, It looked a little too surrealistic for Speed Racer, The 1st Japanimation that hooked me as a kid. but i felt the filmmakers stayed true to the feel of the old cartoon, while at the same time modernizing it with surrealistic, Frank Miller colors and film texture, as well as Matrix type-action scenes. I was content with the cast they choose and A Realistic, feasible plot. Cheers to Speed Racer, it made feel like a kid again on Saturday morning.
