What with all the hype and it being in IMAX, I didn't imagine that whoever produced this film would make such a dog, but who's laughing now ? Yes the girls are sexy and the cgi is mind-numbing, but this film is destined to be infamous for the dancing you never get to see and the "pearls" of wisdom that Scott Glenn keeps dropping periodically. Don't waste your money at the theatre or on the rental.
Show them the money. Obviously everyone got paid for doing this movie. A cast of B-movie actors who's careers have come down to this. With such poor writing and cinematograpy, it probably would have gotten 1 star if the cast had been better looking and scantily clad to earn an R-rating. I can't even recommend to friends to watch on DVD. 1/4 star because it wasn't so bad the I was willing to leave the theatre without finishing my popcorn and Milk Duds.
In fact, I wouldn't see it any othey way. Avatar was the same way and I saw it again at a normal screen with just Real 3D. Just not the same. The sfx in Tron Legacy are the tops. I own a copy of the original Tron on DVD and it's staggering the advances made in sftx since then. Still strip away the sfx and the story is fairly simple. Which is the way it should be. This isn't a Tolkein saga so sit back and enjoy. Now, anyone know where I can find a Tron arcade game ?
A worthy successor/replacement for Avatar. Too bad my theatre only has 1 IMAX screen. It had to bump Avatar to make room for Alice. Great storyline and CGI effects. The Red Queen and the Jabberwocky almost stole the movie from the Hatter and Alice. My only gripe is not with the movie itself, but the uncomfortable & bulky 3D glasses you have to wear in the IMAX 3D set. I've seen Avatar in both Real 3D (non-IMAX) and IMAX 3D, there is most definite difference in quality. I wouldn't consider watching Avatar in 2D.
With 1 stroke, JJ Abrams wiped the bad taste of years of mediocre Star Trek films. Not to sound trite, but if you only see 1 Star Trek movie or 1 movie this summer or both, go see this movie, preferably in IMAX.
Full frontals of Jason Segel were more distracting than funny. Tough choice: Bell or Kunis. What's a guy to do? His apartment looked a lot like a certain bachelor's apartment I know too well. The scene with the staff had me dying with laughter. Who knew puppets could be so entertaining ? Worth seeing again on DVD.
Smart People doesn't come close to either Juno or Sideways but still is a good movie. Church & Page steal every scene that they're in or share. Parker and Quaid were OK, but I could imagine other actors playing their parts.
