Harry Potter Continues to Rock

Harry Potter 6 is yet another amazing installment in the successful franchise. The film's effects are great and the main children actors have really grown into strong actors over the films. The movie stays true to the book in spirit (though I would have liked to have seen more flashback scenes to Voldemort). The film also ran a little long and could have shaved some of the romance stuff with the kids but otherwise the film is a solid joyride of magical adventure.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Ugly (Predictable) Truth

The Ugly Truth is an enjoyable film thanks largely to Gerard Butler's portrayal of a damaged man that doesn't believe in true love (or does he). Butler cares most of this movie. While Katharine Heigl is good she doesn't bring much to the movie that is overly new and refreshing. At the end of the day The Ugly Truth is nothing more than your cookie cutter romantic comedy that is just a little more rough around the edges than most of its genre.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

GI JOE Not so Real American Heroes

GI JOE is a film that on paper should have been an amazing action film. Instead it becomes an exercise of writers going "Why the heck not?" The film is filled with laughable effects, cheesy dialogue and ridiculous futuristic weapons that make you laugh instead of cheer. At the end of the day the film could be entertaining if you check your brain at the door. Otherwise don't bother.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

A Refreshing Take on the Alien Concept

Echoing the Apartheid the film shows Aliens treated as a lower class that is forced to live in camps that have become terrible slums. The film is not for those that do not like language and gore. A man removes his own fingernails in the film and a few people are ripped to pieces. The gore factor is high but the shaky hand-held style of cinematography helps to diminish the gore. The ending is a little predictable and not 100% satisfying but the journey that new director Neil Blomkamp takes you on to get there is well worth the admission. I left the film wanting more and feeling that the future of cinema is in good hands with young filmmakers such as Blomkamp.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
