Sometimes it is better to have low expectations of a movie. The Proposal was just that movie for me. My wife and I were looking for a escape date movie and decided to give Bullock and Reynolds a shot. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this film.
It was a fun movie. Granted it was formulaic. It was corny. There were no surprises. But it was fun.
Avoid this mish mash of a movie. Mediocre acting and disjointed direction resulted in an average flick.
Cameron Diaz was weak. She was not convincing as the controlling mother. Jason Patrick was much better as the dad. The lone bright spot was Abigail Breslin. She was electric.
The director introduced characters - like the brother and the aunts - but did not develop them. The movie was a gut wrenching mess.
Every time Alec Baldwin was on screen, I could not help but think about 30 Rock. I was waiting for Jack Donaghy to yell for Liz Lemon. The problem was that Baldwin's character was a serious lawyer.
Wait for DVD -- and then watch if there are no better alternatives.
Mickey Rourke had a fantastic performance in this tragic little movie. Aronofsky filmed this movie in a documentary style -- often with a hand held camera. There were many shots of Rouke's back while he walked: into the ring, to his daughter's house, through the supermarket, etc. It was gritty and intense. There were some graphic scenes of matches where I had to look away. Two thirds of the way through this movie I was hoping for a nice, tidy resolution and a happy ending. Spoiler alert: It was not going to happen. Marisa Tomei was great -- her character was likeable - but no one else was. Overall this was an unsettling well made film. Go see it for Tomei and Rourke.
A compelling historical movie with excellent acting by Langella and Sheen. It will certainly receive a nomination for best picture - and it will be well deserved. Ron Howard did a superb job transforming the stage play to the big screen. It was an interesting character study of two fascinating individuals. It was a little scary to think that Nixon was the president and the leader of the free world - with his finger on the button.
Kate Winslet and David Kross were excellent. A magnificently acted motion picture. It was a haunting film with many layers. Love and truth. The holocaust and how different generations of Germans dealt with it. It is a movie that makes you think.. and rethink... and think again.
The direction was top rate. Expect many Oscar nominations. The second best film I saw this year - after Slumdog Millionaire. Parents should beware. The first 40 minutes contained graphic nudity. Not a film for children. I highly recommend this great movie.
Sean Penn moves to the top of the list for Best Actor. His nomination is a lock. I question whether the movie will be a commercial success - unfortunately. It is worth seeing just to learn about the gay movement in the United States. A great movie.
Run (don't walk) to see this movie. A treasure. It was intense, but touching. I liked every minute of this movie. The acting was superb. A wonderful story. I loved the characters. Danny Boyle should be the front runner for Best Director.
2 hours and 40 minutes -- please give me some editing. But for the fact that Pitt aged in reverse - nothing happened. The best part of the movie was the beautiful scenes of my hometown, New Orleans. Wait for DVD.
Doubt was a nice way to spend a holiday evening. Superbly acted. Streep and Hoffman were great. Both will receive Oscar nominations. I saw the play on Broadway -- its more natural home. The story was expanded by Shanley for the big screen. Well worth the price of admission.
